Victoria Wine Society

The Victoria Wine Society is an independent tasting group meeting a minimum of 8 times per year, with a membership that ranges from beginners to collectors and people involved in the trade. Most tastings are presented in a sit-down, classroom format with guest speakers and include bread and cheese. We also do some standup reception style tastings that are often conducted "blind" with the wine identities unveiled at the end of the event. There is also an annual member only Champagne and sparkling wine tasting held mid summer that is catered.

The topics of each tasting range from wines of a region like new Bordeaux releases or the wines of Piedmont, but can also be a specific grape type with an international comparison like Riesling or Shiraz. We try to consider market availability of wines when selecting the line-up, however appreciate and consider any opportunity to try something that fits the tasting and has been cellared. Tastings range in cost from $30 to $60 or more depending on the cost of the product with the ultimate intention to break even on the event.

Though not a social club, we are pretty casual group and just enjoy tasting anything of interest. If this sounds like something you would like to experience, please contact our secretary Ceri Barlow at 250.888.8091 or drop by Cook Street or Oak Bay Village Wines and have a chat. Better yet, come and join us at one of the events.

Cheers,
Glenn Barlow, President
